81-Year-Old Found Dead After SWAT Standoff at Vernon Hills Home

• Police on a well-being check at a home in the 500 block of Saddlebrook Lane in Vernon Hills on Friday learned someone might be dead inside.
• A 50-year-old man inside briefly spoke with officers, then barricaded himself, which brought in tactical teams from Illinois State Police and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System.
• After officers entered the residence, they found an 81-year-old woman's body in a state of decomposition.
• SWAT detained the woman's 50-year-old son after several hours without injuries reported, and he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
