Overview
- Police arrested eight youths Saturday between about 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. after roving fights near King Greenleaf Recreation Center in Southwest, with video showing a crowd surrounding an officer before scattering.
- The teens, ages 12 to 17, were booked on charges that included fighting in public, assault on officers, and resisting arrest.
- Parks and Recreation said the disturbances happened outside the Teen Spring Jam perimeter and did not affect the more than 1,000 young people inside.
- Investigators reported that most clashes took place outside the weekend curfew zones set in nearby hotspots such as Navy Yard and the Wharf.
- The curfew-zone authority is set to lapse April 15 after a delayed council vote, and Mayor Muriel Bowser says she could issue a public safety emergency to keep the tool in place.
