7 Train to Shut Down Two Weekends and Skip Queens Stops Through 2027 in MTA Overhaul

The agency says the work addresses severe steel decay and flood risks uncovered during demolition.

Overview

  • Service between 74 St–Broadway and 34 St–Hudson Yards is suspended from Friday, May 8 at 11:30 p.m. to Monday, May 11 at 3:30 a.m., with the same closure returning May 22–25.
  • From May 11 to May 22, Manhattan-bound trains will bypass 69 St, 52 St, 46 St–Bliss St, and 33 St–Rawson St, and riders are directed to transfer at Woodside–61 St, 40 St–Lowery St, 74 St–Broadway, or Queensboro Plaza.
  • Starting May 25 and continuing through 2027, Flushing-bound trains will skip 52 St and 69 St during platform reconstruction, and rush-hour patterns shift with more local running in Queens.
  • The MTA will run free shuttle buses in Queens and Manhattan and will cross-honor fares on the Long Island Rail Road at key stations, with E, F, M, and R trains as primary alternates.
  • Officials cite station renewals and reinforcement of the Steinway Tube, the under‑river tunnel to Manhattan, after crews found severe steel deterioration near Roosevelt Avenue that pushed completion to May 2027 and prompted temporary platforms and altered boarding at Woodside–61 St.
