68 Detained as Peru Joint Task Force Seizes War-Grade Arsenal in Pataz Raid

The intelligence-led strike signals a broader push to weaken illegal mining networks in La Libertad.

Overview

  • The Comando Unificado Pataz, which launched the raid Friday in Pueblo Nuevo in Pataz, detained 68 people and secured the area for investigators.
  • Seized weapons included three Galil rifles, a sniper rifle, a FAL light automatic rifle, four submachine guns, assorted ammunition and explosives.
  • Authorities said 67 of the 68 detainees came from outside Pataz, pointing to organized groups moving personnel into the zone.
  • The joint force, made up of the Armed Forces and the National Police, ran the intelligence-driven operation code-named Caballo de Troya.
  • Officials called the action one of the command’s most significant to date, noting its broader campaign has disrupted about S/250 million in illicit activity and led to dozens of prior seizures and arrests.
