64 Animals Rescued, 27 Found Dead at Flint Township Home Deemed Uninhabitable

Genesee County Animal Control is caring for the seized pets on forensic hold pending the criminal investigation.

Overview

  • Executing a Feb. 17 search warrant, officers found 61 dogs and 3 cats alive and recovered 26 dead dogs and 1 dead cat, with several deceased animals bagged near the front door.
  • Ammonia levels tested hazardous, forcing responders to rotate in shifts as officers and animal-control staff reported burning eyes and difficulty breathing.
  • The Flint Township Building Department inspected the Elms Road property and declared the residence uninhabitable due to extreme filth.
  • Police say they previously issued citations and removed dogs at the same address, and prosecutors report no charges yet as forensic testing and documentation continue.
  • Genesee County Animal Control requested donations and rescue partners and set a $10 dog adoption event for Feb. 21 to free space at its shelter at 4351 W. Pasadena Ave. in Flint.
