51-Year-Old Vacationer Missing After Jump From Pedalo on Lake Annecy

Extensive aerial and underwater searches so far have failed to locate him, leaving a multi-agency rescue operation active.

Overview

  • A companion raised the alarm after the man did not resurface following a swim from a rented pedalo near Île aux Cygnes, about 300 metres off the Pâquier, on Monday.
  • Firefighters, departmental dive teams (SDIS74), gendarmes and police were dispatched from the Port des Marquisats and began coordinated search-and-rescue operations.
  • The Sécurité Civile helicopter Dragon 74 conducted aerial reconnaissance and divers carried out underwater searches, but rescuers had not found the 51-year-old by the latest reports.
  • Authorities suspended navigation in the search area to avoid disturbing the water and cited a local depth of roughly 6–9 metres as a factor shaping search methods and excluding surface dog searches.
  • The disappearance follows a separate double drowning on the same lake earlier in the week, raising local safety concerns and keeping the rescue effort under close public and operational scrutiny.
