Overview
- Hayward Police and the California Highway Patrol announced that infant Maxence Sirois was found safe and unharmed and that his mother, Marina Kazakova, is in custody; the CHP canceled the Amber Alert.
- Maxence was last seen on Sunday, June 28, and Hayward police say Kazakova failed to return him under a court-ordered custody agreement on June 30, which led to the Amber Alert issued the morning of July 1 for four counties.
- Authorities had sought a 2016 white Mazda CX-5 with California plate 7SJW989 and the vehicle was located in West Los Angeles near Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue, where officers recovered the child.
- The Hayward Police Department credited coordinated work by the CHP, local partners and national agencies plus media dissemination for helping locate the vehicle and bring the case to a safe resolution.
- Officers are working to reunite Maxence with his father and the investigation is ongoing with no formal charging decisions publicly reported at this time.
