25-Year-Old Killed During Class at Oakland Adult Education Center

Oakland police say the Homicide Division is leading an active probe after a ShotSpotter alert with no suspect publicly identified.

Overview

  • Officers responded just after 9 a.m. Friday to the 7900 block of MacArthur Boulevard after a ShotSpotter alert and found an adult woman with apparent gunshot wounds who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Family members at the scene identified the victim as 25-year-old Kimarii McLemore and relatives described her as an adult student working to improve her prospects.
  • Investigators confirmed a second person was shot and taken to a hospital and the Oakland Police Homicide Division has assumed the active investigation.
  • Oakland Unified School District locked down the Parker Community Resource Center, secured students and staff inside classrooms, and said it will provide support to those on campus.
  • Police Chief James Beere called the shooting a very intentional crime and authorities asked anyone with information to contact the Oakland Police Department as the probe continues and community leaders consider possible campus safety reviews.
