24-Year-Old Charged After 12-Year-Old Fatally Shot in Downtown Nashville

Police say video and recovered evidence led to a homicide charge while detectives continue to investigate and seek tips.

Overview

  • Police found 12-year-old Damarion Morehead with a gunshot wound to the head in the Union Terrace area and he later died at Vanderbilt Medical Center following the June 21 incident.
  • Metro Nashville officers said a fight involving roughly 10 to 15 teens broke out near Rep. John Lewis Way and Deaderick Street and shots were fired during the melee.
  • Detectives arrested 24-year-old Devin Orr and charged him with criminal homicide after reviewing video that shows a physical altercation and two gunshots that struck the boy.
  • Investigators say the alleged shooter discarded the weapon and police later recovered a firearm from a sewer; officers are still interviewing people detained at the scene and have not closed the case.
  • MNPD’s Entertainment District Unit is leading the probe and is asking witnesses to call 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463 as the arrest raises fresh questions about youth violence and public safety in downtown entertainment areas.
