22-Year-Old Killed in Westminster Police Shooting During Warrant Arrest

A joint state and county review will determine whether the shooting was justified.

Overview

  • Westminster officers went to a single-family home at 123 South Ashburnham Road to arrest a 22-year-old on an outstanding warrant.
  • Police said the man held a large knife and moved toward officers inside the home, and multiple officers fired their service weapons and struck him.
  • Officers gave medical aid at the scene, and the man was taken to a local hospital and then to a Worcester facility where he was pronounced dead.
  • A woman who identified herself as the man’s mother told WBZ-TV her boyfriend heard police order the man to show his hands and drop a knife before shots were fired.
  • No officers were injured, the department placed those involved on administrative leave, and the case is under review by Westminster police, State Police assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney, and DA detectives, with the man’s name and the warrant charge still withheld.
