22-Year-Old Charged With Murder and Torture Over 2024 Baby's Death

Police say medical evidence points to a shaking-type injury and investigators will press the case as the accused faces court and bail opposition.

Overview

  • The man was formally charged late in June and appeared at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday where police said they will oppose bail.
  • The case stems from an infant taken to Bundaberg Hospital in late February 2024 who was airlifted to Queensland Children’s Hospital and died on 3 March 2024.
  • Detective Inspector Wade Lee said investigators allege the baby's injuries are consistent with a child-shaking type injury and that medical evidence was central to the two-year probe.
  • Police say the accused had a family relationship with the child, the boy’s family was previously known to Child Safety, and the mother is assisting enquiries.
  • Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers using reference QP2400337491 as investigations and evidence preparation continue.
