22-Year-Old Accused of Shooting Three Relatives in Ambala Over Land Dispute

Police are searching for the suspect and probing whether the attack was planned and how he obtained the pistol.

Overview

  • A 22-year-old, identified as Abhishek Kumar, allegedly opened fire during a family argument in Bichpari village on Saturday evening, killing his grandmother, elder brother and uncle and critically wounding his aunt.
  • The grandmother died at the scene and the brother and uncle died en route to hospital, while the aunt is in critical condition at a Chandigarh medical facility.
  • Police have registered a case at Shahzadpur station, launched raids and an active manhunt for Abhishek and say their preliminary probe is examining possible premeditation and the firearm's origin.
  • Local CCTV footage of the shooting has circulated on social media and is being used by investigators as part of the inquiry.
  • Neighbours and the complainant say the dispute sprang from an ancestral land fight and a soil‑mining contract in which family members allegedly sold sand and withheld shares, a conflict officials say may have triggered the attack and could raise local scrutiny of mining and weapon access.
