21-Year-Old Charged in Mundelein Apartment Shooting That Killed One

Prosecutors plan to seek pretrial detention after police recovered a gun and arrested the suspect following a traffic stop near the Indiana border.

Overview

  • Police say the shooting occurred inside an apartment on the 500 block of Deepwoods Drive during an argument when 21-year-old Deandre Harris allegedly pulled a pistol and opened fire.
  • A 48-year-old man who lived at the apartment was shot and later died at a local hospital, and a 47-year-old woman who was struck is hospitalized with serious but reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Illinois State Police located the suspect vehicle on an interstate near the Indiana border and took Harris into custody after a traffic stop.
  • Investigators obtained a search warrant for Harris’s vehicle and recovered a firearm, and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and Mundelein police are continuing the probe.
  • The Lake County State's Attorney has charged Harris with two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm and said it will file to detain him while he awaits trial.
