21 Arrested as Police Dismantle Three-Province Retail Theft Ring Targeting Shoppers Drug Mart

Investigators will file all charges in Hamilton to reduce quick bail releases that fuel reoffending.

  • Project Sommes began in August 2025 after Hamilton police linked local drugstore thefts to a wider network dating to February 2024.
  • On Dec. 16, officers executed 16 warrants across southern Ontario at commercial sites, homes and vehicles, recovering over $1 million in goods and seizing six vehicles.
  • Police say stolen razors, nicotine gum, makeup and face creams were funneled to a Mississauga distributor and resold through wholesalers, including AG Liquidation in Brampton.
  • Two suspects arrested in Vancouver after an alleged Shoppers spree are being transported to Hamilton, and warrants are outstanding for two others believed to have left the country.
  • In total, 21 accused now face 175 charges, with ages ranging from 15 to 75 and several already on release orders, as multiple police services coordinated across Ontario, Quebec and B.C.
