Overview
- Deputy constables began life-saving care at a Cypresswood Drive gas station when the unresponsive toddler was brought there on Aug. 6 and she was later flown to a hospital for surgery.
- Investigators say the child suffered a skull fracture, a lacerated liver and a broken pelvis and that the boyfriend, Gerardo Gonzalez, allegedly admitted to striking and stomping on the toddler.
- Gonzalez was arrested and charged with injury to a child after the home and hospital were searched by homicide detectives, and prosecutors warned charges could be upgraded depending on the outcome of their review.
- The mother, Jazmin Cisneros, was arrested and charged with injury to a child for allegedly seeing prior injuries on Aug. 1 and not seeking medical care because she feared the boyfriend would be jailed; bonds are set at $1,000,000 for Gonzalez and $500,000 for Cisneros.
- Harris County homicide detectives and Child Protective Services continue evidence collection and consultations with the district attorney as they consider next steps and what the criminal case and child-welfare review will mean for the family and local accountability.
