19-Year-Old Arrested After Shooting at Virginia State University Leaves Five Wounded

Authorities say they arrested a suspect hiding in a dorm closet but the probe continues and officials have not ruled out additional shooters.

  • Police say shots were fired near VSU’s Quad Annexes in Ettrick around 1:28–1:30 a.m. on Saturday, and officers found five people with gunshot wounds outside residence halls.
  • All five victims were taken to area hospitals; one person is in critical condition and the other four have non-life-threatening injuries, and one victim is a VSU student who has been released.
  • Chesterfield County Police arrested 19-year-old Camron Harris and obtained eight felony warrants charging malicious wounding and use of a firearm during a felony after finding him hiding in a dormitory closet.
  • The investigation is being led by Chesterfield County Police with help from VSU Police, the ATF, and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, and a significant law enforcement presence remains on campus.
