18-Year-Old Found Dead After River Wye Search During Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

An investigation is under way with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award working with the student's college to support those affected.

  • A male body was recovered following a large multi-agency search of the River Wye at Glasbury that began on Tuesday evening, June 30.
  • Dyfed-Powys Police led the operation supported by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, local mountain rescue teams and the National Police Air Service.
  • The Duke of Edinburgh's Award confirmed the young person was participating in a DofE expedition and said the student drowned during the trip.
  • The teenager's family have been informed and are receiving support, and the A483 near Glasbury was closed while emergency services preserved the scene.
  • Police enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and the DofE has pledged to cooperate with the college and authorities as any forensic or coroner processes proceed.
