18-Year-Old Charged After Vehicle Driven Into Mesa Home, Police Say

Police say investigators view the crash as a deliberate, relationship-motivated attack that could lead to additional DUI charges.

Overview

  • Police allege an 18-year-old, identified as Collin Knight, intentionally drove a car into an occupied home on East Javelina Avenue and targeted a former romantic partner who was inside.
  • After the impact the driver abandoned the vehicle, fled on foot, was found near East Baseline Road and South Windsor, and was taken to a hospital before formal arrest and booking.
  • Maricopa County court records show Knight was booked on nine felony counts, including aggravated assault, endangerment, leaving the scene and criminal damage, and a judge set bond at $50,000.
  • Officers reported no major injuries among the multiple occupants who were inside the house at the time of the crash.
  • Investigators continue to probe the case for possible DUI-related charges and have scheduled Knight’s next court appearance for Aug. 21, with the inquiry informing local safety and domestic-violence concerns.
