18-Year-Old Assaults Railway Staff at Reeperbahn Station

Federal police have opened multiple criminal proceedings after the suspect showed signs of drug influence and was taken to hospital.

Overview

  • Bahn security intervened when the 18-year-old allegedly harassed women and lay at the platform edge before staff restrained him.
  • While being held, the suspect repeatedly tried to kick and hit staff and bit a security employee several times through the employee’s sweater.
  • Officers handcuffed the man and took him to the Bundespolizei station at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof where his identity was confirmed.
  • In custody he damaged a viewing window by kicking it and, because he displayed obvious drug-related symptoms, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
  • Authorities have opened several investigations, including on suspicion of bodily harm and property damage, and the case highlights recurring safety and intoxication issues on the Reeperbahn transit platforms.
