18-Year-Old Arraigned on Murder and Gang Assault in 15-Year-Old’s Queens Park Killing

Police say he fled to Jamaica before his airport arrest in New York.

Overview

  • Zahir Davis, 18, was taken into custody at JFK Airport Friday night after returning from Jamaica, according to the NYPD.
  • Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz arraigned Davis on second-degree murder, first-degree gang assault, and weapons charges, and a judge ordered him held without bail with a court date set for April 29.
  • Police say 15-year-old Jaden Pierre was shot in the chest on April 16 during a large Instagram-promoted water and gel-gun gathering at Roy Wilkins Park in St. Albans.
  • Video reviewed by detectives shows Pierre being punched just before the gunshot, and investigators are assessing whether Davis tried to pistol-whip him and the weapon fired.
  • Authorities link Davis to the BG4 crew and say the probe remains active as they review cellphone and surveillance footage and ask the public for tips through Crime Stoppers.
