Overview
- A joint team raided forest areas of Kamalnagar, Krishnadola, Dulunga and Bijoynagar on January 29, destroying 41 plantation plots spread over nearly 65 acres.
- The operation brought together Assam Rifles, multiple BSF battalions, Tripura Police, Tripura State Rifles including a women’s unit, and the Forest Department.
- A separate drive on January 28 in Boxanagar cleared around 1.45 lakh saplings over more than 58 acres, valued at about Rs 14.5 crore.
- Police recovered 206 kg of unclaimed dry ganja from forest land at Gamaicherra village, and several suspects have been arrested under the NDPS Act.
- Officials say most locally grown ganja is trafficked to states such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and they signal that similar joint operations will continue to curb cultivation and protect forest land.
