Overview
- A collision between a blue Volkswagen Golf and a white Volkswagen Polo near the Shooters Bottom layby at Beachy Head happened just before 9.30pm on Friday and left a 17-year-old passenger dead and three men seriously injured.
- Sussex Police identified the victims as a 17-year-old boy from Eastbourne who was pronounced dead at the scene, a 19-year-old man from Polegate and a 21-year-old man from Hellingly who were seriously injured as passengers, and a 21-year-old man from Eastbourne who was the other car’s driver and seriously injured.
- The force has launched Operation Nashville, a formal inquiry led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, to establish what happened and to gather evidence from anyone who saw the crash or has video or dashcam footage.
- No cause for the collision has been reported and there have been no arrests or charges published so far as the investigation remains at the evidence-gathering stage.
