17-Year-Old Killed in Two-Car Crash at Beachy Head

Sussex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has opened Operation Nashville and is asking local witnesses and anyone with dashcam or phone footage to come forward.

Overview

  • A collision between a blue Volkswagen Golf and a white Volkswagen Polo near the Shooters Bottom layby at Beachy Head happened just before 9.30pm on Friday and left a 17-year-old passenger dead and three men seriously injured.
  • Sussex Police identified the victims as a 17-year-old boy from Eastbourne who was pronounced dead at the scene, a 19-year-old man from Polegate and a 21-year-old man from Hellingly who were seriously injured as passengers, and a 21-year-old man from Eastbourne who was the other car’s driver and seriously injured.
  • The force has launched Operation Nashville, a formal inquiry led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, to establish what happened and to gather evidence from anyone who saw the crash or has video or dashcam footage.
  • No cause for the collision has been reported and there have been no arrests or charges published so far as the investigation remains at the evidence-gathering stage.
  • Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact Sussex Police at collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk and quote Operation Nashville, and investigators have said they are especially keen to hear from people who were in the Beachy Head area around the time of the crash.
