17-Year-Old JEE Aspirant Found Dead in Kota Hostel

Registering a case, conducting a post-mortem, police are investigating the sixth student death this year in Kota's coaching hub.

Overview

  • Fellow students broke into the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar room on Thursday after the 17-year-old did not respond to knocks and calls, and he was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead.
  • Police identified the student as Aryan Ojha of Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, and said no suicide note was recovered at the scene.
  • Officials reported the teen used a noose tied to an iron angle on the wall because the ceiling fan had an anti-hanging device, and a formal case has been registered under Supreme Court guidance.
  • The family was notified, attended the post-mortem at MBS Hospital, gave no allegations to police, and investigators are collecting statements from hostelmates and acquaintances to determine the cause.
  • Kota is a national test-preparation centre with a history of student suicides and recent regulations limiting enrolment of under-16s; the case highlights limits of physical safety measures and could prompt renewed scrutiny of coaching centres and mental-health support.
