17-Year-Old Driver Killed in Staplehurst Crash, Two Teenagers Seriously Hurt

Kent Police have opened a formal inquiry and are urging the public to provide CCTV or dashcam footage to help establish how the collision happened.

Overview

  • A single-vehicle crash on Headcorn Road near Sweetlands Lane left the 17-year-old female driver dead after the car hit a tree at about 8:25pm on Thursday 11 June 2026.
  • The car, described by police as a blue Seat Ibiza Xcellence, left the road at the junction and struck a tree before emergency crews arrived.
  • Two passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries: a 19-year-old man in a life-threatening condition was moved to a London hospital and a 17-year-old boy was treated at a local hospital.
  • Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are conducting a formal probe and are asking anyone with witnesses, CCTV or dashcam footage to call 01622 798538 quoting reference BN/DH/048/26 or to upload footage to the police portal.
  • Police forensic examination and witness interviews are under way and findings that explain cause or contributing factors can take days to weeks and may lead to coroner involvement.
