Overview
- Emergency services were called to Leadbeater Dam just before 3.20pm on Sunday 25 May after reports a teenage boy was in difficulty; he was pulled from the water, taken to hospital and later pronounced dead.
- West Yorkshire Police said Calderdale CID is investigating the incident as a non-suspicious death and enquiries remain ongoing.
- A large rescue response attended the scene, including firefighters, specialist water rescue teams, ambulance crews and a police helicopter, and bystanders entered the water to try to help.
- The boy has been identified locally as 13-year-old Reco Puttock from Bradford and his father has posted emotional messages thanking those who tried to save him and asking strangers who entered the water to come forward.
- Lightcliffe Academy and local rugby clubs paid tribute and the school has arranged pastoral support for students and will confirm plans for public tributes as the police inquiry continues.
