12-Year-Old Dies After Falling From Barn Roof in County Durham

Durham Constabulary and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the cause of the fall to establish what happened at the site

Overview

  • The boy, named by police as 12-year-old Jaxon Robert Hubery of Bishop Auckland, fell from the roof of a barn at Woodhouses while with a group of friends on Friday, July 24.
  • Ambulance crews and a clinical team were dispatched after a 2.35pm call that day and the Great North Air Ambulance Service was requested before he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment.
  • Jaxon died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon, July 28, and Durham Constabulary publicly confirmed his death and identity on July 29.
  • Police say they are working alongside the Health and Safety Executive to establish the circumstances of the incident and no causes or charges have been reported so far.
  • The family have thanked those who supported them and have urged parents to keep children away from the barn; the HSE’s involvement signals that authorities may inspect the site and consider safety or regulatory follow-up.
