115th Shad Suk Mynsiem Finale Draws 1,810 Dancers in Shillong

Overview

• The 115th edition concluded at Weiking Ground in Shillong after three days of dance and ritual tied to the start of the agricultural season.
• A total of 1,810 dancers took part at the finale, including 964 men and 846 women.
• Senior state leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai, attended the event, and organisers thanked the government for its support.
• Seng Khasi Kmie vice-president P D Nongrum urged the community to protect Khasi customs and identity and noted rising participation by children.
• The central dance reflects Khasi matrilineal roles, with women at the center and men forming a protective circle, and it was formalised at Weiking Ground by Seng Khasi in 1911.
