11 Naxalites Surrender in Gadchiroli as Police Open New Bangadi Outpost

Officials frame the latest handover as proof that Maoist influence has shrunk to border pockets of Bhamragad.

Overview

  • Eleven cadres laid down arms before Gadchiroli Police and the CRPF on Thursday, in the district long affected by the CPI (Maoist).
  • The group included a divisional committee member, an area committee secretary, a PPCM member, a commander and an area committee member, all carrying rewards totaling Rs 68 lakh.
  • Police say Left Wing Extremism in the district has almost ended and is now largely restricted to the Bhamragad border area.
  • A new police assistance centre was established in remote Bangadi, 2 km from the Chhattisgarh border, constructed within 24 hours by over 1,000 personnel with fortified security and basic amenities.
  • Authorities report 123 armed Maoist surrenders since 2025 and 794 overall in Gadchiroli, with rehabilitation packages available under Maharashtra’s policy.
