11 bit Studios Announces The Alters Expansion Last Variable for July 13

A 20-hour paid expansion introducing terraforming, an underground base with cryosleep cycles and specialist scientist alters with its standalone price still unannounced.

  • The studio revealed Last Variable during the game's recent showcase, and the developer set the release for July 13, 2026.
  • Last Variable offers roughly 20 hours of new campaign content that plays as an epilogue starring Jan Scientist and a team of specialist alters including a Geologist, Biologist, Chemist, and Physicist.
  • New gameplay systems let players terraform regions into oasis biomes, build an underground base with a Cryosleep Chamber, and run Field Labs where alters continue work and age over multi-year cycles.
  • Terraforming changes will create new resources and trigger rising planetary threats such as more frequent earthquakes and severe radiation waves, forcing trade-offs between long-term gains and immediate risk.
  • The DLC will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Epic and GOG and is included in The Alters Deluxe Edition, though a standalone price for Last Variable has not yet been announced.
