10 Dead in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., School Shooting as Suspected Gunman Found Dead

Police now report no ongoing threat following the shelter-in-place order being lifted.

  • RCMP say six victims were found inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, one person died en route to hospital, and two more were discovered at a related residence, bringing the toll to 10 including the suspected shooter.
  • More than 25 people were injured, with at least two airlifted in critical condition and others treated locally for non–life-threatening wounds.
  • Officers found the suspected attacker dead inside the school with an apparent self-inflicted wound.
  • An emergency alert instructing residents to shelter in place was canceled at 5:45 p.m. local time, and the Peace River South School District closed schools for the remainder of the week.
  • Investigators are conducting additional searches and working to determine motive and any victim relationships as they assess whether a second suspect was involved.
